In 1996 the first Afman Family Book was completed. The book covers the period from about 1585 until 1996 and was compiled by Pieter A. Afman, drs. Margrietha W. Prins-Afman and her son drs. Ronald E.J. Prins. Some introductory chapters are copied to this website.
- In the Preface to the book the origin of the book is explained.
- The first chapter of the book is a survey of the places in the Netherlands and abroad where Afmans were residing in 1996. In August 1996 about 340 persons bearing the name "Afman" were known to us. Most namesakes (190 persons) lived in the Netherlands.
- Finally a chapter has been copied with the various theories about the origin of the name "Afman".
In the year 2011 the family name existed 200 years and as a consequence a new Family Book was presented. The book is written by Margrietha Prins-Afman and counts 512 pages on A4-format and 300 figures (photographs, drawings, maps), a lot of family stories and data, and facts from the many archives explored by Margrietha. A special novelty was that the children of the female Afmans figure in the book, i.e. children whose surname commonly is not Afman. The contents of the book underlie the genealogy as presented in this website.
(The book is written in Dutch, a translation is not to be expected in short time. To order the book contact the secretary.)
